Michelle Williams replaces Diane Kruger in the movie After The Wedding, the remake of Susanne Bier’s 2006 Oscar-nominated drama, the movie will be directed by Julianne Moore‘s ( co-lead) husband Bart Freundlich, and will start production next month
The project is reimagining the original film with two women in the lead roles. Williams will now play Isabel, who runs an orphanage in the Indian city of Calcutta (the part was played by Mads Mikkelsen in Bier’s original). In desperate need of money to keep the orphanage afloat, she travels to New York to meet a potentially perfect benefactor, Theresa, played by Moore.
UK-based Cornerstone Films is handling international sales. CAA is handling US rights.
It will be produced by Joel Michaels and Silvio Muraglia through Paradox Studios, which is also financing.
Williams’ recent credits include I Feel Pretty, which is currently on release, and the upcoming superhero feature Venom starring Tom Hardy.

Michelle is doing such great choices lately, right now she has a supporting role in the comedy I FEEL PRETTY, and it’s so nice to see her doing more light stuff, with i feel pretty, the Greatest Showman and Venom, she is doing something completely different, and with Rio and After The Wedding she will be back doing more dramatic roles, which is good too, it’s really great to see her having more opportunities in her carreer.
